About The Workshop

The workshop is targeted at young members of the Indian scientific community to introduce them to recent developments in use of quantitative methods for understanding the collective dynamics of biological & social complex systems and their evolution. Apart from progress in understanding the fundamental mechanisms at work in phenomena as diverse as fireflies flashing in unison and behavior of cellular aggregates, these approaches throw new light on how corrective actions can be taken to prevent undesirable collective phenomena such as stampedes in crowds – making them of vital practical importance.

Topics to be covered:

  • The Mathematics of Conflict & Cooperation
  • Evolutionary Games and Adaptive Dynamics
  • Statistical Physics of Collective Phenomena
  • Crowds in Motion: Herding, Flocking, Swarming
  • Complex Networks: Theory & Algorithms
  • Nonlinearity and Pattern Formation
  • Group Behaviour in Living Systems
Organizers
Shakti N Menon (IMSc Chennai)
Sitabhra Sinha (IMSc Chennai)
