TCS PhD and Integrated PhD Admissions 2025

The Theoretical Computer Science group at IMSc invites applications for a direct interview call to the PhD and Integrated PhD program starting in August 2025.

Update: 21st April:The following candidates have been shortlisted for first phase of interviews. The timings are tenative.

Candidates may be called for a repeat interview on 29th April or 30th April. Please make sure your availability.

Update 18th April: The first phase of interviews are scheduled from 28th-30th April. The shortlisted candidates will be emailed soon with more details.

Update 10th March: The interviews will happen in two phases. Please see details below.

Update 10th March: A candidate is eligible for a direct interview call if they satisfy any one of the following criteria:

1. They have been called for interview by any of the IITs or IISc or TIFR or NISER in 2025 based on a national level exam (including GATE, NET or TIFR entrance exam) in a subject related to theoretical computer science (e.g., pure or applied mathematics, computer science, statistics, information technology,…). 
2. They appear on the Doctoral Interview Shortlist of NBHM 2025.

The candidates will have to upload their interview call letter and the score of the national level exam based on which they were called for the interview. The candidate must be interested in the mathematical aspects of computer science.

Note: This process is independent of JEST 2025. Candidates who qualify JEST will be called independently at an appropriate date.

Note: Receipt of a complete application before the deadline does not guarantee an interview spot. Based on the applications we receive, we will shortlist candidates for the interview; shortlist to be announced soon after the last date of applications.

The portal for applying will open from March 10  to March 20. The interviews will take place sometime in April 2025.

CLARIFICATIONS:

- You can upload any proof that you were shortlisted for interview (e.g,. a call letter, webpage where the shortlisted candidates number appear), and any proof of participation in the national level exam (e.g, score card, registration number details, hall ticket) based on which they were called for interview.
- You can apply for this route even if you are not registered for JEST.
- DO NOT upload your JEST registration details on the application portal.
- DO NOT upload only your GATE score card on the application portal. It has to be accompanied with a proof of shortlist for interview in one of the institutes mentioned above.
- DO NOT upload just a proof of shortlist for interview on the application portal. You have to provide acccompanying proof of appearing in a national level exam.
- DO NOT upload invalid GATE score cards on the application portal. GATE scores from 2023 onwards (inclusive of 2023) are considered valid.
- Individuals who have been shortlisted for interview at TIFR should upload their hall ticket details for the TIFR written exam, along with proof of being shortlisted for interview (e.g., the webpage where the shorlisted candidates names appear).
- Individuals who were called for a written test prior to an interview but did not qualify for the interview are not eligible for direct call to interview at TCS at IMSc.
