Komalathammal was convinced of Ramanujan’s prowess and unmindful
of the circumstances, she was on the lookout for a suitable girl
to get her eldest son married. In 1908, Komalathammal went to
Rajendram to visit her relatives and friends. She found the nine-year-old
Janaki, fourth daughter of her friend
Ranganayaki Ammal (and her husband Rangaswami Iyengar) a suitable
bride for her 21-year-old son. She asked for Janaki’s horoscope
and returned to Kumbakonam. She got the formal approval of Ramanujan’s
father after the traditional matching of the bride’s horoscope
                with that of the Groom.
