Dr. Walker’s recommendation was accepted by the Board of Studies of the University of Madras, with the express consent of the Governor of Madras, and the condition that Ramanujan should submit Quarterly Reports of his work. The special scholarship amount was Rs. 75 per month, for two years. Ramanujan accepted this first research scholarship of the University of Madras, from May 1913 (on leave, on loss of pay, from the Madras Port Trust).
