Professor Subhashis Nag

Professor Subhashis Nag was a mathematician and a faculty at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc). He worked in the area of complex analytic geometry, particularly, Teichmuller theory and its relations to string theory.

Professor Nag was born on 14th August 1955. He obtained his PhD from Cornell University, New York. He joined the IMSc in 1991. He won the prestigious Bhatnagar award. Unfortunately, however, he died in December 1998, before the actual award ceremony was held. The Nag Lectures are held at IMSc in his memory.

The series of Nag Lectures was instituted at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in the year 2002 through the generous contribution of Mrs. Sutapa Nag, widow of Subhashis Nag. It aims to promote research in mathematical sciences by inviting to the Institute of Mathematical Sciences an eminent mathematical scientist, one each year, to deliver a series of lectures. One of these lectures, a public talk, is designated the Subhashis Nag Memorial Endowment Lecture.
