On February 25, 1913, when Mr. G.T. Walker, F.R.S., visited the Madras Port Trust, Sir Francis Spring showed him Hardy’s reply to Ramanujan's first letter and Ramanujan’s Notebooks. Walker immediately wrote to the University of Madras, asking for financial support to Ramanujan.
