With
the help of Mr. Narayana Iyer, Ramanujan secured a Class III,
Grade IV clerical post in the 'Accounts' Section of the Madras
Port Trust. He had from then on, his life-long support from Sir
Francis Spring, the Chairman of Madras Port Trust and a closer
(Mathematical) contact with Mr. Narayana Iyer.
Ramanujan's
entry into Port Trust, on March 1, 1912, is a turning point in
his career. Later that year, Janaki who came of age joined Ramanujan,
his mother and his grandmother in a house in Saiva Muthiah Mudali
Street, in George Town (paying a rent of Rs. 3 per month). Ramanujan
and Janaki began to live as man and wife.
