In 1906, he set out from Kumbakonam, for the first time, and joined Pachaiyappa's College in Madras, in the F.A. class again. After about three months, he fell ill and discontinued his studies. However, he appeared privately for the F.A. examination in 1907. Unfortunately, he failed to pass the university examinations and this marked the end of his formal education in India.
