11. Where will the muck be stored?

The construction phase requires the removal of the rock excavated from the tunnel and laboratory. The recommended plan is to store the muck (mainly granite) in the existing dumping yard created for PUSHEP which is located near the portal. Hence truck movement is restricted to a small region within the TNEB-owned land.

The existing dumping yard is much bigger than needed for the project since it was created to cater to PUSHEP which is on a much larger scale. Part of the muck in the form of gravel will be reused in paving the tunnel and laboratory floor. The rest may be removed in phases in a way as to minimise vehicular disturbance (even organising 4-5 truck caravans is possible).
