Equal emphasis on Lectures and Team Projects
1st week: will cover basic
techniques for handling complex systems, in particular, complex
dynamical networks
2nd week: focus on biological
complexity
3rd week: focus on
economic/social complexity
4th week: focus on finishing
team projects
Last 2 days: project
presentations
Details of lecture courses : given in schedule
Outline of lecture courses:
http://www.imsc.res.in/~sitabhra/meetings/school06/courses.html
Teams comprising of 2 (at most 3) participants will formulate and work
on a complex systems related project, with the guidance of mentors
Projects divided into 3 thematic areas:
Mentors:
Sudeshna Sinha (IMSc) & Lauren Buckley (SFI)
Mentors:
Gautam Menon, Rahul Siddharthan (IMSc) & Van Savage (SFI)
Mentors:
Sitabhra Sinha (IMSc) & Suresh Naidu (SFI)
- Ideally, the project would involve computer simulation
- Computers have been arranged at the 1st floor lounge of the Guest
House
- C, Fortran compilers available
- Once you have formed your team please contact either SS or Raj
Kumar Pan for Usernames, Passwords
1st week:
- decide which thematic area you would like to do your
project on (preferably choose something different from what you do in
your home institute)
- form your team after discussing with other participants who
have chosen the same thematic area as you (ideally consisting of
participants from different backgrounds)
- focus on a particular complex systems related problem in
discussion with mentors
- Project meetings for each thematic area between 9-9:30 and
after 5:30
- meeting times for all participants working in each thematic area,
along with mentors, to be decided
2nd and 3rd weeks:
- refining the problem and working on solving it in
discussion with mentors
- work on the projects can go on all evening – dinner has also been
arranged at IMSc for local participants (who are not staying in the
Guest House)
- Project work after lectures and over weekends
4th week:
- finishing touches to your project
- working on your project presentation
- Travel Support: Important information
Those who are getting travel support from IMSc, please fill up your
travel assistance (TA) form and hand them (with copy of your ticket)
over to SS or Raj Kumar Pan
