As a part of the activities of the Centre
for Quantum Sciences of
The Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), we are planning to organize a two-weeks long national level
workshop on Quantum Information Science (QIS), to be held at IMSc
from 22
Nov. to 4 Dec., 2010.
Our aim is to have self-contained Courses of Lectures on a few
important topics in QIS, which have not been covered in much detail
in the schools/workshops held in recent times. We do hope that junior
researchers as well as people interested in QIS will benefit much
through active participation in this workshop so that they can enter
firmly into the present-day developments in these topics. We
are planning to have four one-and-half hour long lectures (including
few tutorials/discussion sessions) on each day from Monday through
Saturday, during the entire workshop (except on 28th Nov., 2010). We
are trying to make the lectures on each topic to be pedagogical but
at the same time, they should contain at least some important
materials about the present-day research activities on that topic, so
that, after successfully attending the workshop, at least some of the
participants can feel confident in pursuing research works in that
(or, related) topic. Tentative
list of topics to be discussed:
Structure
of state space in quantum theory, positive & completely positive
maps and their roles, properties of quantum channels, phase-space and
quasiprobability methods, entanglement in Gaussian states, Gaussian
channels and their characterization, connexion
between nonclassicality & entanglement, non-locality and
entanglement properties in finite dimensional quantum systems,
quantum informational aspects
of many-body systems with particular emphasis on Kitaev's model.
