The following are some of the other significant meetings throughout the year held at many centers in India and in other countries too:

  • On Dec. 22, 1986, year long celebrations at the Ramanujan Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics of the University of Madras, were inaugurated by Prof. R.P. Agarwal, the then Vice Chancellor of Rajasthan University.
  • Prof. R.P. Agarwal conducted a three week National Instructional Seminar on Ramanujan and Special Functions, from May 15 - Jan. 6, 1987, at Mt. Abu, Rajasthan. This Seminar funded by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), India, was inaugurated by Prof. M.S. Raghunathan, the then Chairman of the NBHM.
  • About 125 Mathematicians form the world over gathered at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign to celebrate the centenary of Ramanujan's birth, due to the initiative of Prof. Bruce C. Berndt.
  • A National Instructional Conference on Ramanujan's Circle Method, sponsored by the Central University at Pondicherry and the NBHM, was held at Pondicherry from Sept. 21 - Oct. 5, 1987.
  • A Srinivasa Ramanujan Centenary Seminar on Algebra and its Applications, was held at the Ramanujan Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics of the University of Madras, from Oct. 26 - 31, 1987, as part of its year long celebrations of the centenary.
  • The Association of Mathematics Teachers of India (AMTI) held its XXII Annual Conference as a National homage to Ramanujan, at Kumbakonam Town Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam, where Ramanujan had studied. A Hall in this school was named after its famous student as Ramanujam Hall on this occasion.
  • The Ramanujan Mathematical Society, which came into existence due to the initiative of Prof. R. Balakrishnan and others, in 1985, conducted a Ramanujan Centennial Conference at Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, from Dec. 15 - 18, 1987.
  • An International Conference on Mathematics was organized by the Anna University, Madras, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Academy of Sciences, Third World Academy of Sciences and Committee for Science and Technology Development, at the University's Campus in Guindy, from Dec, 19 - 21, 1987. The Computer Center of this University has been named after Ramanujan.
  • The Ramanujan Birth Centenary Year International Symposium on Analysis was organized by the Department of Mathematics of the University of Pune, from Dec. 26 - 28, 1987.
  • The 53rd Annual Conference of the Indian Mathematical Society was devoted to the celebration of the Ramanujan Birth Centenary and was held at the University of Gorakhpur, Gorakhpur, from De. 30, 1987 - Jan. 2, 1988.

Several institutions had one-day symposia to mark the centenary:

  • Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, on Aug. 12, 1987.
  • The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on Sept. 16, 1987.
  • S.N. Bose School for Advanced Study and Research in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, Calcutta, on Dec. 31, 1987.
