Ramanujan went with Narayana Iyer, at the instance of his mother,
to Namakkal. It is said that they spent 3 days and slept in the
‘mandapam’ facing the sanctum sanctorum of the goddess
Namagiri of Namakkal. In the middle of the second or third night’s
stay, Ramanujan woke up Narayana Iyer and told him that he had
obtained the consent of the Goddess in his dream.
