By 1902, Ramanujan’s proficiency in algebra, arithmetic,
geometry and trigonometry was established at school. For by then
Ramanujan had mastered:
S.
L. Loney’s books on Trignometry and Geometry were Classics
at that time. The book on Trigonometry was given to Ramanujan
as a prize. Though he won books as prizes in Form
II, Form IV and Form VI, they
were on literature, rather than books on mathematics.
