Hardy who expressed this view [Hardy to Dewsburry] also hoped
that India will regard him as the treasure he was. He urged the
University of Madras to make a permanent provision for him to
enable him to continue his research work. Again the University
rose to the occasion by granting Ramanujan £250 a year as
an allowance for five years, commencing from April 1919.
