Question: Can I qualify for the NBHM MSc scholarship this year but defer availing it until next year or later? Answer: No. The qualification cannot be deferred. Question: Is there a syllabus? Answer: No. NBHM does not publish a syllabus. Examination papers from the previous years along with keys are available on the official NBHM website and also at https://www.imsc.res.in/nbhm_model_questions/ These are however only indicative. The pattern and difficulty of the tests are subject to change without any notice whatsoever. Question: I am interested in joining IMSc as an integrated PhD student in mathematics. What should I do? Answer: You should appear for the NBHM PhD Scholarship Written Test (usually held every January), which also doubles up as the entrance test for PhD and Integrated PhD programs at HRI, IMSc, IISER Pune, NISER, ... Each institution makes its own short list of candidates to be called for interview based on the performance on the entrance test. Also, some institutions use various alternative criteria to shortlist candidates for interview (based among other things on various test scores). You are advised to find out more from the institution(s) you are interested in. Question: I am registered (or intend to register) for a mathematics masters distance education program. Am I eligible for NBHM MSc scholarship? Answer: No. Those registered under distance education programs are NOT eligible. Question: I am enrolled in a masters program in statistics. Am I eligible for the NBHM MSc scholarship. Answer: No. Question: I am enrolled in a "Mathematics and Computing" two year masters program. (Or, I am in the fourth / fifth year of a five year integrated "Mathematics and Computing" masters program.) Am I eligible for the NBHM scholarship? Answer: No. Question: I am enrolled in the 5-year BS-MS program in IISER-X. Am I eligible for the NBHM MSc scholarship? Answer: Yes, provided mathematics is your major and you are in the 4th or 5th year of the program. Note however that you cannot be receiving two government scholarships at the same time. For example, you cannot simultaneously be receiving a DST scholarship as well as a NBHM scholarship. Question: I have BE / BTech / BSc BEd (or other bachelors) degree and I am now enrolled in a two year masters degree program in Mathematics. Am I eligible for the NBHM MSc Scholarship? Answer: Yes. The online application form should ideally allow you to fill out details of your exact bachelors degree and ask you for details of your marks for each year of your undergraduate degree. If however this is not the case, then you are free to enter "BSc" as your bachelors degree and fill out the marks for each of the last three years of your undergraduate degree.
