Virginia Tech Graduate School Transfer Procedures for International Students

Step 1. Inform the school you are currently attending of your intention to transfer to Virginia Tech.
Step 2. After you complete ALL requirements for admission (including submitting a current financial certification and this form completed by your Foreign Student Advisor), you will be issued a new I-20 or IAP-66 form by Virginia Tech.
The new IAP-66 form for J-1 students will be mailed to the previous sponsor for release information.
Step 3. F-1 students: Complete item 11 of the I-20 form (sign and print your name and date) and submit the form in person to the International Student Support Office of Virginia Tech in 209 Sandy Hall within 15 days of beginning attendance. The completion of transfer will be noted on the back of the Student copy of the I-20 form. The School copy will be submitted to the INS Data Processing Center within 30 days of receipt from you.
J-1 students: After the IAP-66 form is returned to Virginia Tech with the release information from your previous sponsor, you will be given your (pink) copy of the new IAP-66 form. The yellow copy will be submitted to USIA for notification purposes.
Step 4. Enroll in Virginia Tech in the first term available after leaving your previous school, or the first term after vacation (if you plan to enroll in the Fall semester).

It is essential that you follow these procedures in order to maintain your non-immigrant status.
