India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) Project

offers

Post Doctoral Positions

to dynamic young experimentalists in High Energy Physics/Nuclear Physics

The INO Collaboration:

Members of the High Energy and Nuclear Physics community in India have recently come together to form the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) Collaboration; the main goal of this collaboration is to construct an underground laboratory for a large neutrino experiment. In the first phase it has been proposed to construct a magnetised iron tracking calorimeter with Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC) as the active detector element to study neutrino oscillation parameters using atmospheric neutrinos.

Scope of the project:

Currently the INO collaboration is involved in various R & D efforts related to this proposed experiment. In order to carry out these R & D efforts the INO collaboration is looking for a large number of young dynamic experimental High Energy or Nuclear Physicists at the level of Post Doctoral Research Fellow to participate in the research and development work related to:

(1) Particle Detectors

(2) Electronics and Data Acquisition Systems

(3) Detector and Physics simulation

Selected candidates will be assigned to work at any of the participating institutes of the collaboration like

Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai,
Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI), Allahabad,
Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai,
Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar,
Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata,
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai,
Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata,
or in any of the Universities/IITs involved in INO-related R & D work.

Duration of Project:

These positions are initially for one year but can be extended beyond that depending upon the performance of the candidate. Furthermore, once the INO project is fully funded, those with good performance are likely to be offered more permanent placements.

Eligibility:

If you have a Ph. D in Experimental High Energy Physics or Nuclear Physics or expect to complete your Ph. D. soon and are interested in any of the above mentioned areas of R & D, please apply with your CV and arrange to send at least two letters of references directly to
