If you cut a circular cake with 1, 2, 3, or 4 straight slices, then the largest number of pieces you can get is 2, 4, 7 and 11, respectively. (You’re now allowed to move the pieces between cuts.) See the picture. What is the largest number of pieces you can create with five cuts?
