Meet the Artist: Margreet de Heer We are grateful to Margreet de Heer, whose comic strips on Mathematics appear on the subsequent pages. Margreet de Heer's love for comics shines through on each page. She has been very active in canvassing for comics to be brought in as mainstream reading material. In fact, from 2017 to 2020, De Heer was named as the first Comics Artist of the Netherlands. The goal was to bring comics on the reading list of secondary schools. She has put together a suitable reading list of Comics Books for such an endeavour. She has also published interviews in the comics format. She has written about Philosophy, Religion, Science, World domination, and Love in pictures, all of them being in a beautifully drawn and edited comics format. Since 2008, De Heer has been working with her husband Yiri T. Kohl, who often takes care of the colouring. The following pages on the History of Mathematics is from her brilliant "Science: A Discovery in Comics" published in 2012. Subequent issues of Jantar Mantar will feature other comics on Science, Scientists and Mathematicians by Margreet de Heer. We are very thankful for her ready and enthusiastic permission to use the material contained in these pages. We hope that this will inspire many readers of JM to take up the challenge and start writing in comics format, with art and science coming together to make fascinating reading material.
