You are offered a job, which lasts for 7 weeks. You get to choose your salary. Which of the following options will you choose?
. You get Rs. 100 for the first day, Rs. 200 for the second day, Rs. 300 for the third day. Each day you are paid Rs. 100 more than the day before.
. You get 1 paise for the first day, 2 paise for the second day, 4 paise for the third day. Each day you are paid double what you were paid the day before. 
Ans: Most people unfamiliar with this kind of dilemma will choose the first option. But the second gets you more money at the end of the seven weeks. Let's see how:
There are 7 days in a week. For the first choice, the person earns Rs.(100+200+300+400+500+600+700)=Rs.2800 in week 1. Similarly, you will find that over the next six weeks, you earn Rs.7700, Rs.12600, Rs.17500, Rs.22400, Rs.27300 then Rs.32200. The total over the seven weeks is Rs.122,500. For the doubling scheme, the person earns Rs.(0.01+0.02+0.04+0.08+0.16+0.32+0.64)=Rs1.27 in week 1. Similarly, they would earn Rs.162.56, Rs.20807.68, Rs.2,663,383.04, Rs.340,913,029.12, Rs.43,636,867,727.36 and Rs.5,585,519,069,102.08 over the subsequent six weeks for a whopping total of Rs.5,629,499,534,213.11, which is more than five lakh crore rupees!
