In 1655, about three hundred fifty years ago, he discovered Luna Saturni - now known as Saturn's moon Titan. The lens itself measures 5.7 centimeters in diameter and is inscribed along the border "X 3 FEBR. MDCLV": its focal length and the date of its final polishing, 3 February 1655. It also bears a verse from the Roman poet Ovid, "Admovere Oculis Distantia Sidera Nostris" (They brought the distant stars closer to our eyes). Back Inside Cover: Artwork of Maurits Cornelis Escher (17 June 1898 - 27 March 1972), a Dutch-Frisian graphic artist. He is known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints. These feature impossible constructions, explorations of infinity, architecture, and tessellations.
