A broad survey of High Energy Physics (HEP) both within as well as beyond the Standard Model is presented emphasizing the unsolved problems. Inspite of the spectacular success of the Standard Model, there is a serious crisis facing the field. The importance of research on new methods of acceleration that can resolve this crisis by taking us to superhigh energies is stressed. We briefly review the status of HEP in India and offer suggestions for the future. |
