Mathematics Toys Workshop

The institute will be hosting VSS Sastry, who will be leading a workshop on Mathematics toys. The first half of the session will focus on Conic Sections, and Class 11 students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Minambakkam will be participating. The second half is open to IMSc members and other invitees.

VSS Sastry
VSS Sastry is a Science and Maths Communicator, an Origamist, and a Science Writer. He is known for his hands-on teaching methods, incorporating Origami into his lessons. He has designed math toys for the Dr H N Science Center and was instrumental in conceiving the Ramanujan Math Park, among many other such fetes.

Show how to create conic sections using light cones and physical cones, as well as strings and paper folding. |

14:00 - 15:30 | Constant width Curves
Create a Reuleaux triangle and other shapes using constant-width curves, then demonstrate their proofs. |

16:00 - 17:30 | Divisibility and Prime Numbers Using Origami/Kirigami
Explore concepts such as Euclid's Division Lemma, the Ulam Spiral, Division by 37, and Division by prime numbers. |
