HBNI Bill - Institute of National Importance

Homi Bhabha National Institute is a Deemed University comprising of 10 Constituent Institutes (CI's), IMSc being one of these.

At IMSc there are two academic programs for students: the Ph. D. Program and the Integrated PhD. Program. The PhD programs in Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science comes under the HBNI board of studies for Mathematical Sciences. The PhD program of Physics comes under the HBNI board of studies for Physical Sciences.

Students with a Bachlor's degree (B.Sc./B.Tech) are eligible for the Integrated Ph. D. program and can get a Master's Degree along the way. Students with a Master's Degree (M.Sc./M. Tech) are eligible for the Doctoral Porgram.

The selection of students is through National level examinations such as the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST), the GATE, CSIR. followed by an interview. Selected students receive a Fellowship throughout their tenure, typically of five years.
