Arithmetic correlation

Ritabrata Munshi

Given two sequences {a(n)}, {b(n)}, often in analytic number theory we are interested in analysing the correlation \sum_n a(n)b(n). These type of sums arise, for example, in the sub convexity problem, shifted convolution sum problem, Dirichlet’s divisor problem, Gauss’ circle problem and also in the problem related to the existence of critical zeros of automorphic L-functions. In this talk I will describe a template which often yields nontrivial results for such sums.
