Points of small height on elliptic curves

Both on abelian varieties and nultiplicative groups, it is classical that points defined over abelian extensions of the base fields cannot have small normalized height. It is however conjectured that the same is true over much more general fields. We discuss possible conjectural extensions and partial results on elliptic curves.
