On a conjecture of Watkins

Given an elliptic curve $E/\Q$ of conductor $N$, there exists a surjective morphism $\phi_E: X_0(N) \to E$ defined over $\Q$. I will provide a survey on Watkins's conjecture, which predicts $2^{rank(E(\Q))} \mid deg(\phi_E)$.
