Littelmann paths and tableaux

We survey the key results of Littelmann's path model and establish the connection to semistandard Young tableaux. We then describe an action of the symmetric group on tableaux and use this to show that for a fixed shape, the number of tableaux of a given type is unchanged if the type is permuted.
