The RSK correspondence is a multi-faceted jewel at the heart of algebraic combinatorics. In one of its incarnations, it is a piecewise-linear bijection between an orthant and a much more complicated cone which controls the structure of a pair of semistandard tableaux of the same shape. I will explain a classic enumerative result of Stanley which suggests the existence of such a map, and then explain a way to construct it which arises naturally out of the theory of representations of quivers. No knowledge of quiver representations will be assumed. This talk is based on joint work with Al Garver and Becky Patrias.
