| Abstract | Writing on pots is an ancient tradition in the subcontinent as evident from the archaeological record. The pots occur in a variety of contexts from 3 rd – 2 nd millennium BCE Harappan Bronze Age settlements to Iron Age burials and sites dated to the early centuries of the Common Era. This presentation will discuss the archaeological data from the 3 rd century BCE to the 5 th century CE and underscore its significance for delineating maritime networks across the Indian Ocean. |
