Chevalley groups: construction and simplicity

We will review the construction of Chevalley groups associated to
arbitrary representation of Lie algebra, utilizing Kostant's Z-form of the
universal enveloping algebra. Further, we will see that in appropriate
context they give rise to a large bulk of finite simple groups, using the
notion of groups with B-N pair. If time permits, we will also exploit some
connection to algebraic groups.
