IMSc Webinar

Kinetic studies on the coil-globule transition of a single flexbile charged polymer chain in poor solvent and specificity of positively charged polymer-RNA interaction.

Charged polymer are the basis for a broad of functional systems including protein folding and aggregation, protein-DNA/RNA interaction, self-assembled copolymer membranes, polymer-coated nanoparticle, flocculating etc. The configuration of charged polymer is heavily influenced by surrounding conditions, thereby surrounding environmental conditions such as temperature, pressure, solvent quality, salt-content affecting the thermodynamics and kinetics of biological process. Also, the character of interaction between two charged polymers depends on the inherent property of charged macromolecules. In the first part of my talk, I will discuss about the kinetics aspects of coil-globule transition a single flexible polyelectrolyte (PE) chain in poor solvent condition and how the presence of salt-ions effects the kinetics of phase transition of a PE chain using coarse-grained MD simulations. But coarse-grained simulation would not be able to provide us the atomistic details of specificity of interaction between the charged polymers. In the second part of my talk, I will describe how the binding of catiomer (positively charged polymer) with siRNA (a double-stranded RNA) depends on the side-chain group of polymer through all-atom atomistic simulation.
