On the representation theory of the Thompson group F

Claus Koestler

University College Cork, Ireland

Very recently we have discovered a close relationship
between the representation theory of the Thompson group F and a
certain class of (noncommutative) stationary Markov shifts. Our
approach is motivated from recent results on spreadability, a
distributional invariance principle in noncommutative probability,
and its connection to semi-cosimplical categories in algebraic
topology. My talk will introduce to and overview these recent
developments.

This talk is based in parts on joint work with Gwion Evans and Rolf Gohm.
