I will provide an introduction to the theory of Polya frequency (PF) sequences. The first half includes examples (including log-concave/unimodal sequences, Hilbert series) and classical results on generating functions of PF sequences (with some proofs, and one related Hypothesis). In the second half, I discuss connections from total positivity to old and new phenomena involving symmetric functions. (Partly joint with Terence Tao.)
