An overview of the proof of the Kadison-Singer Conjecture

Krishanu Roy

IMSc

The Kadison-Singer Problem was posed in the fifties, probably in connection to a statement of Dirac concerning the foundations of quantum mechanics. This conjecture is important because it is equivalent to a remarkable number of open problems in other fields of mathematics. Recently in 2013 a proof has been given by Marcus, Spielman and Srivastava. I'll try to give a overview of the proof in this talk.
