Hypergroups, and the associated combintorial magic

The term hypergroup had been used in the literature before I came across a small variant that fitted naturally in the theory of subfactors. I shall talk about the `dimension function' that the Pedeon-Frobenius theorem naturally associates to a finite hypergroup, some series of finite hypergroups that I constructed in collaboration with R.B. Bapat and the series of subfactors I managed to constuct out of them and the `generalised golden means' that arose as the index of some of these subfactors.
