Algebraic Cycles and the Fundamental Group

In this talk we will discuss the relationship between certain
natural
algebraic cycles on products of curves and the fundamental group of the
curve. As an application we will show that certain cycles constructed by
Beilinson on the product of modular curves can alternately be constructed
using the fundamental group. This is joint work with Subham Sarkar.
