Flow-induced bound states of active particles

Rajesh Singh

IIT Madras

Active particles - such as microorganisms or autophoretic colloids - create fluid flow around them, even when stationary, due to nonequilibrium processes on their surfaces. The fluid flow leads to the interaction of an active particle with other
particles and boundaries in the fluid, which results in fascinating bound states in active colloidal suspensions. This talk will be on a theoretical and computational approach to studying hydrodynamic interactions of active particles. Using this method, I will
describe mechanisms that explain the bound states of active particles observed in recent experiments on active matter systems.
