Dr RJ Ranjit Daniels, Care Earth Trust, Chennai
The Western Ghats are among the oldest tropical hills known for their rich amphibian diversity. They harbour 65% of India’s
amphibian species of which 87% are endemic, suggesting a long history of evolution and diversification in this mountain range. This talk
highlights the biogeographic and climatic factors that have played a role in shaping the patterns of amphibian endemism and diversity in the Western Ghats.
