Higher spin theories: From Dirac to Vasiliev

This talk will survey the developments in Higher spin theories since the days of Dirac,then summarize the features of Vasiliev equations for higher spins and end with open issues in higher spin theories.In the process a recent work on consistent backgrounds for higher spin propagation will be discussed.
