The Kim-Trump Singapore Summit -- before and after

R Rajaraman

JNU, Delhi

On June 12th 2018, President Donald Trump of the US and Chairman Kim Jong Yun of DPRK (North Korea) met in Singapore in a Summit which many considered to be historic. We will discuss the background to that event and how it came about. The question of how N Korea, an isolated and impoverished nation, subject to stringent sanctions by the UN and the US, managed to develop a nuclear deterrent against the US will be addressed. So will the US response to those developments.

We will also analyse the hard content of the Summit agreement and the subsequent follow up by the two parties, both of which are somewhat meagre as compared to the hype.
