On the representation theory of G~S_n

Murali K Srinivasan

IIT Bombay

The Vershik-Okounkov approach to the complex irreducible representations of S_n was extended by Pushkarev to G wreath S_n. This talk is about a paper (joint with A. Mishra) that gives a fully detailed exposition of Pushkarev's theory incorporating the following new elements: our definition of a Gelfand-Tsetlin subspace, based on a multiplicity free chain of subgroups, leads to a more natural development of the theory; and we work out in detail the simplest nontrivial example of this theory, the "generalized Johnson scheme" of Ceccherini-Silberstein, Scarabotti, and Tolli.
