The rhythmic beating of the heart is characteristic of life. From birth, till death, one's heart beats continuously. Tissue culture studies of cardiac cells have shown oscillatory properties similar to the actual organ. How the first rhythmic heartbeat is set up is an interesting question. I will present a paper discussing the initial heart beat.
