Molecular and spatial regulation of hematopoiesis: The journey so far and the way forward

Satish Khurana

IISER Thiruvananthapuram

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) have been clinically very relevant for a number of hematologic and non-hematologic disorders. However, the mechanisms that can lead to their expansion without loss of stemness have been elusive. We have been trying to take lessons from developmental hematopoiesis to achieve this objective. Ongoing studies revolve around the processes involved in the emergence of hematopoietic progenitors and their expansion for the creation of stem cell pool. This talk will be based on initial studies from our lab that established a role of outside-in integrin signaling in the maintenance of HSC quiescence.
