Galaxy surveys and the breakdown of the standard model of cosmology

Bhuvnesh Jain

Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Pennsylvania, USA

I will show tests of the dark matter/dark energy based cosmological model from a combination of galaxy and cosmic microwave background (CMB) surveys. I will describe the current crisis over the expansion rate of the universe and its implications for fundamental physics. On smaller scales, I will show new results from the Dark Energy Survey on the dark matter halos of galaxy clusters. The detection of splashback, the dynamical boundary the separates the cluster from the ambient large-scale structure, opens up interesting applications of cluster and fundamental physics.
