Expeditions : The Energy and Cosmic Frontiers in Particle Physics

Satyanarayan Mukhopadhyay

University of Pittsburgh

The energy, intensity and cosmic frontiers constitute the three major directions of research in particle physics, driven by a large number of ongoing and upcoming experimental and observational probes. These probes are designed to understand physics at distance scales ranging from smaller than the size of an atomic nucleus to the largest scale we can imagine, that of the whole Universe. On the energy frontier, I shall focus on what we are going to learn about the still-mysterious Higgs boson at the next phases of the Large Hadron Collider, as well as at future higher energy and precision collider experiments. On the cosmic frontier, I shall describe the continuing multi-prong effort to understand the nature of particle dark matter, which is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the Universe.
