Certain Curious Aspects of Light-Matter interactions
Debabrata Goswami
IIT-Kanpur
Summary of lectures 8 and 9: Though often taken for granted, in most of the semiclassical treatment of Light-matter interaction, light is treated as a classical wave and not particles. We discuss several common aspects of light matter interactions, where the classical properties manifested are often treated under Newtonian Mechanics, such as, for thermal processes: temperature and viscosity, however, most cases need to be treated with more care. We deal in detail with Optical forces leading to Traps and their consequences and various applications.
Both lectures 8 and 9 will be on this topic.
