Half-sided translations broken to pieces

Manish

IMSc

We dissect the half-sided translations for 1+1 D massless scalar in Minkowski spacetime, generated by $\mathcal{G}$, into non-commutative operations built using the entanglement Hamiltonians of the underlying algebras. Explicitly, we define $G, G'$ such that $\mathcal{G} = G + G'$ with $[G, G']
eq 0$. This non-commutativity prevents a clean split of $\exp(is \mathcal{G})$, and requires the Zassenhaus product formula. We compute all the infinite terms in the product explicitly, and show $\exp(is \mathcal{G}) = \exp( i s G ) \exp( i s G' ) \exp( f(s) [G, G'] )$ for a real function $f(s)$.
We study the consequences of this result through flow of local operators under $G$ and $G'$, and show that while in regions where $G'$ has no causal influence, the action of $G$ is indistinguishable from that of $\mathcal{G}$, in the region where both $G$ and $G'$ together create $\mathcal{G}$, the action of $G$ is remarkably different. We conclude by discussing how our results can be applied to the island paradigm.
