Special values of L-functions and the Okada space
Siddhi Pathak

A crucial ingredient in Dirichlet's proof of infinitude of primes in arithmetic progressions is the non-vanishing of L(1,\chi). This motivated S. Chowla to consider the analogous problem in a wider setting of L-series associated to periodic functions. This problem has received significant attention in the literature, beginning with the works of Chowla himself as well as Baker, Birch and Wirsing. Nonetheless, tantalizing questions such as Erdos's conjecture remain open. In this talk, I will present various facets of this question and discuss recent progress in generalizing the theorems of Baker-Birch-Wirsing and Okada.
